It was learned from Rucheng county that it was successfully approved to be “Millennium Ancient County” in 18th session of “millennium ancient county” experts conference of Chinese name culture heritage protection experts committee.

According to the record, “from north to south in Yongjia time” in Xijin Dynasty, the intelligentsia of the central plains of China moved to the south, some of the exiled persons who lived in Rushui basin of Henan province temporarily settled down in Jinning county. The governors of Dongjin Dynasty laid out an area to set a settlement county and settle the exiled persons of Rushui basin. The area was named after “Rushui river”as Rucheng. It was firstly settled as a county in 358 (the second year of Shengping, Mu Emperor of Dongjin Dynasty). Till now, it was with over 1656 years history.

Besides the downtown of Rucheng county which was honored as Hunan provincial famous historic and cultural county, there are Waisha village- Chinese traditional ancient village, Tuqiao village- Chinese folk culture and art village, and 6 Hunan provincial famous historic and cultural villages as Shiquan village, Shazhou Yao minority village, Jinshan village, Xianfeng village, and etc. Moreover, there are over 310 ancient ancestral halls available there. It was introduced that “millennium ancient county” is one of the U.N.’s world cultural heritage protection projects. All the counties approved on the conference will be submitted to U.N. geographical names organization after being approved by Ministry of Civil Affairs. All the applicants approved by U.N. geographical names organization will be registered domain names together and issued with the certificate and board of“millennium ancient county”. It was planned to hold the inaugurating ceremony of “millennium ancient county”in the opening ceremony of 2014 China Chenzhou International (Hot Spring) Leisure and Tourism Festival in Rucheng county.
