The first batch of Chinese characteristic towns was released on the official website of the State Housing and Construction Ministry. 6 small towns from Hunan Province were enrolled into the list. Followed the requirements listed on“Notice for Promoting the Construction of Characteristic Towns”, the State Housing and Construction Ministry confirmed 127 small towns as the first batch list after the reviewing of experts and joint selection of the State Development and Reform Commission and the State Financial Ministry.

According to the list, 5 small towns from Hunan Province were listed there. 8 ones are from Zhejiang Province, ranking the first place. 7 ones are from Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Shandong Province respectively, while 6 from Guangdong Province. The list of Hunan Province is as follow:

Dayao Town, Liuyang City, Changsha City

Lianqiao Town, Shaodong County, Shaoyang City

Reshui Town, Rucheng County, Chenzhou City

Heye Town, Shuangfeng County, Loudi City

Biancheng Town, Huayuan County, Tujia and Miao Minority Autonomous District of Xiangxi
