Yizhang has two more provincial-level cultural sites

The former residences of Ouyang Yi and Xiao Xinhuai in Yizhang County, Chenzhou City, were included on the list of the 11th batch of cultural sites under provincial-level protection recently.


Ouyang Yi’s former residence, situated at Matian Village, Meitian Town, Yizhang County, was built in Emperor Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. It’s a two-story building with brick and wood structure. Ouyang Yi spent his childhood here.

 

In January 1928, he joined the Communist Party of China and participated in Southern Hunan Uprising. In April that year, he went to Jinggang Mountains with Qishi Independent Army. He has successively served on multiple positions, like the secretary of the Military Commission of the Fourth Red Army, director of the Security Bureau of the Fifth Corps of the Red Army, and director of the first Bureau of the general headquarters.

In 1955, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General, and won several medals for his contribution. He was the member of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People’s Congress, alternate representative of the 7th CPC National Congress, and representative of the 11th CPC National Congress.


The former residence of Xiao Xinhuai, located in Fenshui Village, Wuling Town, Yizhang County, was built in 1851. Xiao Xinhua spent his youth here.

In 1929, he joined the Communist Party of China, participated in Southern Hunan Uprising and the Long March. He has successively served on multiple posts, including the platoon sergeant of the 4th Red Army, chief staff of the military division and commander of the Shanxi military region.


In 1955, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General, and won several medals for his contribution to the country. He was a member of the 4th and 5th CPPCC National Committee.


So far, the county has 65 cultural relic protection units (85 cultural sites) at all levels, including 4 cultural units (7 cultural sites) under state-level protection, 16 (31 cultural sites) under provincial-level protection, 13 (14 cultural sites) under municipal-level protection, and 32 under county-level protection.
