“The weather was good days ago, and it was packed here, with over 1,000 people received every day,” said Fang Jie, a young man from Yunnan who was born in the 1980s. Every weekend and holiday, he is always delighted to see the crowds of tourists visiting Xiaobu Courtyard.
He is the founder of Xiaobu Courtyard Comprehensive Cultural Experience Park in Xiaobu Village, Beihu District, Chenzhou City.
This year, the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference is about to be held. Recently, the project construction in Xiaobu area is in full swing, and the “Awakening Old Houses” initiative in Beihu District is becoming increasingly popular, which makes him more confident and ready to embrace the development.
“After years of accumulation, Xiaobu Village now has a good foundation,” Fang Jie said. Not far from the urban area and with smooth roads, it is attracting more and more tourists. Whether it is to develop leisure agriculture or rural tourism, there is a good foundation.
It was attracted by such a small town that Fang Jie chose to stay here. “We built new buildings using the old bricks and tiles in the village, and tried to preserve the ancient village elements and traditional culture.”
Since the beginning of 2020, he has invested more than 18 million yuan to renovate the original ecological restaurant in the ancient village.
Today, the newly decorated courtyard is antique, adorned with China-Chic elements on the original basis. It has introduced a variety of new business forms, such as catering, agricultural products supermarket, Hanfu Hall, rural bookstore, homestay inn, attracting visitors from everywhere.
“In 2020 and 2021, we received more than 200,000 tourists every year. It will definitely attract more people in the future,” said Fang Jie.
He believes that Xiaobu Courtyard has become an Internet-famous place, bringing new vitality to both the old houses and Xiaobu Village.
His wish is to let the awakened old houses gain popularity. In the next step, he plans to continue to improve tourists’ experience of farming culture, or build new projects, introduce such new forms as murder mystery to attract more young people.
