On April 16, a themed promotional activity was launched at the Chayu Pavilion of Beihu District, Chenzhou City. Enthusiasts of the traditional Chinese culture, calligraphy, recitation, painting, etc. were invited to appreciate the scenery of Beihu Lake and write poems about the lake.
At the event, a traditional Chinese culture enthusiast introduced the Chinese allusion of “Han Yu’s spearing fish” and wrote down the Chinese ancient poem about the joy of spearing fish. At the same time, activities, such as painting the spring scenery of Beihu Lake, children’s reciting poetry, and ancient costume enthusiasts visiting Beihu Lake, were also carried out.
According to the historical records, Han Yu was exiled in 803 AD. While passing through Chenzhou, he met Chenzhou Governor Li Bokang and stayed in Chenzhou for over three months. During this time, Li Bokang invited him to participate in a unique folk activity in Chenzhou--spearing fish on a summer night. Han Yu, from the north, had never seen such exciting and novel nighttime activity in his life. He couldn’t help but marvel at it and wrote down this famous poem with great interest.
The Chayu Pavilion is located at the 24-hour commercial street of the Beihu Park, which is one of the key projects for the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference, with the total planned area amounting to about 1.42 square kilometers. There are many cultural tourism projects including the China Women’s Volleyball Team Training Base, China Women’s Volleyball Team Bamboo Shed Hall, and Hunan Kunqu Opera Troupe. It has been listed as one of the national key cultural tourism consumption cluster areas for cultivation.
