The sunny Xihe River Scenic Belt is thronged with visitors soaking up all the pleasure and beauties of spring by admiring blossoms, picking argy wormwood leaves, and taking photos at the wetland park.
The Xihe River flows through eight administrative villages of Huatang Town, scattering a tangle of marshes and ditches along the way. In the past, however, it was but a gray smear contaminated by breeding sewage and household waste, which in turn lowered villagers’ quality of life.
To improve the surrounding environment, Huatang Town has spared no efforts these years to build a community of life for man and nature through ecological conservation of the Xihe River basin. Its cleanup campaign has yielded rich fruits, with 7 sources of livestock farming pollution removed, 11 sites of illegal riverside occupation regulated, 10.4-kilometer riverways dredged, 11-kilometer banksides improved, 2 grass swales and 7 wetlands restored and built, and 14 tons of river waste cleared.
Thanks to these efforts, harmony between man and nature has been achieved along the Xihe River area, where flowers bloom, schooling fish swim, and egrets stroll leisurely.
