Dongjiang Lake is a national 5A level tourist attraction and a national wetland park. The normal water storage capacity of Dongjiang Lake is 8.12 billion cubic meters, with a water surface area of 160 square kilometers. The water quality of the lake has long maintained the Class I standard for surface water. It is the most important water resource protection area in the Xiangjiang River basin and has been listed as a key protected lake with good water quality in China.

 

In recent years, based on excellent water resources and beautiful ecological environment, an ecological studying tour and sightseeing base has been built at the Dongjiang Lake area. It consists of natural ecological tourism areas such as Mist-enveloped Dongjiang Lake, Longjing Canyon, Doushuailing Rock, and Dongjiang Rafting, and cultural tourism areas like Dongjiang Dam, Doushuai Palace, Dongjiang Cultural Tourism Street, Dongjiang Photography and Art Museum, Rare Stone Museum, and Wuling Agricultural Museum.

 

The developed ecological tourism areas have rendered audio guide services to promote ecological environmental protection knowledge and provide basic scientific research materials for scholars who come for sightseeing and ecological research.

 

In order to strengthen the science popularization and education of wetland protection, Zixing City has built the Dongjiang Lake Wetland Science Popularization Hall in the Xingning River Estuary Wetland Park, with an area of 2,000 square meters.

 

Through various ways of expression such as exhibition boards, 4D projection, electronic sand tables, VR interaction, specimen display, the hall integrated “education and research, display and exchange” to promote knowledge of ecological environment protection. Since its opening in October 2020, it has received over 200,000 visitors at home and abroad.

 

In the first half of this year, the tourist reception and tourism revenue of Zixing City increased by 61.7% and 64.1% year on year respectively, both ranking first in Chenzhou City.
