Qitian State-owned Forest Farm is located at the southernmost end of Qitian Ridge. It was founded in 1958 and covers an area of 92,913 mu (6,194.2 hectares). The main peak has an elevation of 1,654 meters and a forest coverage rate of 96%. It’s the backyard of Yizhang County.
There are over 60 rare and endangered plants in the forest farm, including the national first-class protected plants like southern Chinese yew and Bole tree. There are 11 species of national second-level protected plants, and the community of Disanthus Cercidifolius Maxim with over 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) is the largest wild one discovered in Asia.
The rich vegetation provides good conditions for the habitat and reproduction of wild animals and plants. More than 238 species of vertebrates have been found in the forest farm, including 22 species of national key protected animals.
Among them, there are one first-class national protected animal, Clouded Leopard, as well as 21 species of second-level national protected animals, like Hoplobatrachus rugulosus, pangolin and kitten.
