The Deshou Mountain Scenic Area in Rucheng County is surrounded by mountains. Deshou Mountain covers an area of 23,000 mu (1533.33 hectares), with a forest coverage rate of 92%, a highest altitude of 1,088 meters, and an average annual temperature of 16.6 degrees Celsius. Based on the resources like waterfalls, streams, peculiar mountains, secluded valleys, and jagged rocks, it has many characteristic areas for ecological sightseeing, forest amusement, ecological wellness, folk customs, expansion training, and ecological conservation. It receives 200,000 tourists annually.
Relying on such projects as aerial airships, flying walkways, and mountain water activities, the scenic area has seen increasing influence and reputation, which receives tourists from the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta in addition to Hunan, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces.
“We have continued efforts to grow and protect plants. There are primitive secondary forests such as Fagaceae and Lauraceae, as well as animals like reptiles, birds, mammals in the scenic area. In particular, more than 700,000 rare and precious trees have been planted, including 250,000 silver fir trees, 350,000 golden nanmu trees, and more than 60 redwood trees.
Various precious trees have made the scenic area a popular destination for science popularization and study. Not long ago, a summer camp lasting more than half a month for teenagers from Jiangsu, Guangdong, Hunan and other places was held in Deshou Mountain, with various activities, such as national defense education, plant science popularization, ecology protection, and hot spring bathing.
The popularity of the scenic area has also helped surrounding villagers increase income.
A 52-year-old worker surnamed He, living on the Banbian Street in Reshui Town, is responsible for the operation of airships and sanitation work in the surrounding area, with a monthly salary of 3,800 yuan.
There are more than 20 migrant workers like He in Deshou Mountain, all of whom are nearby villagers, engaged in catering, cleaning, security, and ticket sales. Their salaries are slightly higher than that of local migrant workers. During construction periods of new projects and during busy tourism seasons in the scenic area, more temporary workers will be needed.
“Ecotourism is a sunrise industry, and Deshou Mountain will be built into a new brand for the cultural and tourism industry in Rucheng County, helping boost income of more people. Next, 170 million yuan will be invested in the second phase to build more projects such as sightseeing cableway, ski resort, mountain climbing, and Zhuyun Mountain Villa. It is expected to achieve a turnover of over 50 million yuan and provide more than 100 job opportunities,” said Song Wande.
