In Longwan Village, Feitianshan Town, Suxian District, a unique kiln bakery has become popular, becoming a bright spot in the local rural revitalization.
This rustic bakery has been transformed from an old house, and its simple appearance complements the surrounding natural environment. The shop owner uses traditional kiln baking techniques to bake bread, attracting passing tourists to stop and taste it.
A year ago, there was still an idle land overgrown with weeds, with dilapidated houses. Yang Qiao discovered it was surrounded by mountains and waters, and so he rented out this house to explore a new model for the development of rural old houses.
On the basis of preserving the original style, Yang Qiao integrated modern business concepts and created a unique style of kiln bakery, giving the idle old house a new vitality.
At the end of November 2024, the bakery began trial operation after renovation. A waterfront platform was set up in front of the old house, allowing diners to enjoy the scenery of the Cuijiang River.
On weekends and holidays, tourists from all over gather here to taste delicious food, take photos and enjoy beautiful scenery.
Yang Qiao said that bread cannot be ordered in advance now, and it’s usually sold out as soon as it’s baked. “I didn't expect business to be so good. We will also launch parent-child activities in the future, including teaching children how to make bread, imparting knowledge about kilns. I am confident that I can make my contribution to
the development of rural revitalization through this kind of small courtyard economy,” Yang Qiao said.
The success of kiln bakery in Feitianshan town is just a microcosm of the local government of Suxian District to make the best of idle rural resources. There are many similar cases in Suxian District. Wayaoping Historical and Cultural Ancient Street, Wugaishan International Forest Wellness Resort and other places, where the once idle and abandoned houses have been gradually transformed into Internet-famous attractions that integrate tourism, leisure and consumption.
These attractions bring popularity and wealth to rural areas, and inject continuous power into rural revitalization.
