Hunan Rucheng Jiulongjiang Forest Park (short for Jiulongjiang Park) is located in the southeast of Rucheng county where is in the southeast of Hunan province and the junction of Guangdong, Jiangxi and Hunan province. 360,000 people of the 15 villages and 8 towns of Rucheng county live in the 2401 square kilometers big area, including 58,000 minority nationalities which accounts for 70% of the total minority people of Chenzhou city. Rucheng county is a cultural blessing place with abundant culture. According to the data, it was firstly established in the second year of Shengping of Emperor Mu of Eastern Jin Dynasty which was over 1600 years ago. Elegant sceneries, abundant resources and excellent talents are available there. Shennong (Yan Emperor) once handled farming work there and invented tiling tools; Zhou Dunyi- the originator of Neo-Confucianism used to be the county official there and worked out famous poem of “Ailian Shuo”. Cheng Haoyou who was one of the students of Zhou Dunyi worked out a poem of “Chunri’oucheng” in Rucheng county, which became the top-ranking work of Chinese poem history. Rucheng county is one of the five minority gathering counties of Hunan province that Yao, She, Zhuang and other minorities are available there, which enabled it to be with simple folk custom, unique feature and deep cultural connotation. Furthermore, it is with abundant natural resources, especially as geotherm, forest, hydroenergy, mines, and etc. Rucheng county is the key forestry county of Hunan province that the total forestry lands are covered 70% of the total lands of the county. Its forest coverage is 73.69%. 667 species of 85 families of the plants are available in Rucheng county, including 13 national and Hunan provincial key protective species.
The 70,000mu big park of Jiulongjiang Park is located in the southeast corner of Rucheng Daping Forest Farm. The main plant there is broad-leaved forest. It’s altitude is from 185meters to 1381meters. Currently, it covers 16,152h m2 areas ( including the 510 hm2 big Reshui hot spring scenic spot). Its forest coverage rate is 94.3%, and the forest stock volume is 1.948million m3. Over 0.6million phyllostachys pubescens are planted there. Its weather is very pleasant. Furthermore, green trees, clear water, abundant resources, rich culture are available there. And because of its convenient transportation condition, it is with great advantages on improving forest tourism industry. It is one of the original secondary forests with best reservation condition and most species, so it is valuable for exploration, ecological tourism, scientific research, and etc.
Jiulongjiang Park’s natural scenery is famous in south China from ancient China for its elegant sceneries. In February, 2006, it was approved as Hunan provincial forest park by Hunan province.
