It was learned that the short list of "ten cultural symbols of Chenzhou" was reviewed by some cultural and historical experts, representatives of Chenzhou Municipal People's Congress and Chenzhou Municipal CPPCC, and some officials of relative departments on July 20, 2016. Zhang Xihui- Member of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee Standing Committee and Minister of Chenzhou Propaganda Department hosted the reviewing conference.

From this April 12- July 10, 682 representative cultural symbols were collected via email, Wechat, letters, and etc. from 0.5million people.

On the reviewing conference, all attendees shared their ideas on the symbols, studied the collection work, and voted their favorite 20 cultural symbols. Final list of 20 cultural symbols will be confirmed after further review. As stated by the experts, the selection work should be more regulated, authoritative, oriented, and participatory, while the standards should be more representative, characteristic, regional, comparative, and inherited.

After listening to the speeches delivered by attendees, Zhang Xihui stated that the significance and purpose for this selection work should be specified to consolidate consensus; the selection standards should be specified to show the representatives, characteristics, and influences of the cultural symbols; the selection procedures should be specified to regulate the organization and operation of selection work; the disciplines for the selection should be specified to emphasize the public character of this event and prevent it from commercial operation; and the selection results should be well applied to upgrade their influence and play the best cohesion and influence of cultural symbols.
