Anren County Finishes the Investigation on Habitat of Egret

2013-07-11

Egret is one of the key national protected birds, which is a common migratory bird in Anren county. From this April to June, Forest protection station of Anren Forestry Bureau organized a comprehensive investigation on some habitats of egret as rivers, reservoirs, pools, etc. It was learned from the investigation, egret is a clean but timid bird, so it gets used to live in groups in some beautiful places which are far away from the urban cities or towns and villages. Their favorite foods are little fishes, frogs, shrimps, some insects, etc. Generally speaking, their breeding season is from March to June, and just as its habit to live in groups, it enjoys to breed in groups as well. Both female and male egrets will work together to build their nest. Usually, they will come back to their old nest next year to reuse it after fixing it. But once their habitat polluted or destroyed, they will change to other places. Currently, because of the hunting of birds, air pollution, water pollution, more buildings and other behaviors did by human, the egret’s life is greatly influenced. According to the investigation, better living condition and breeding of the egrets are not only helpful for the ecological and environmental condition, but for social and economical improvement as well. It is shown from the preliminary data that there are about 60,000 egrets live throughout Anren county, but most of their habitats are damaged greatly.

In order to protect the egret’s habitats, Anren county should strengthen the protection for rivers, lakes, reservoirs, fields and other wetlands. Better propaganda work and protection measures should be carried out accordingly to protect the environment and grant the egrets with good living condition.
