At present, Tanlingci Village in Bali Town of Yizhang County welcomes the bumper harvest of small yellow ginger.

Villagers were busy pulling ginger, removing mud, pruning leaves, and bagging it in the small yellow ginger planting base of Tanlingci Village. During the harvesting process of small yellow ginger, Li Chenglong, a ginger grower, also drove excavators into the ginger fields to further improve harvesting efficiency.

Those who are harvesting small yellow ginger are mostly idle laborers in the village.

“I can earn 80 yuan a day. It is pretty good for elderly people like me. We hope that the small yellow ginger industry in the village will become stronger and provide more employment opportunities,” said a villager.

Two years ago, 25-year-old Li Chenglong returned to his hometown after retiring from the military and came to Tanlingci Village with his family to plant small yellow ginger. After years of exploration, he has mastered the small yellow ginger planting technique, and improved the quality of small yellow ginger, which is in short supply in the market.

“The small yellow ginger achieves a yield of about 4,000 kilograms per mu (about 0.067 hectares), with the price between 7 yuan and 8 yuan per kilogram, which is slightly higher than that last year, and the output value of over 20,000 yuan per mu (about 0.067 hectares),” he said.

Looking at the bountiful harvest of small yellow ginger and the higher price, he is more confident in developing the small yellow ginger planting industry.

In recent years, Tanlingci Village, based on its favorable climate, soil, and environment, has introduced small yellow ginger growers to plant 40-mu (about 2.67 hetares) small yellow ginger on idle barren mountains. It’s expected to achieve the output value of more than 1 million yuan this year. Thanks to the development of the industry, more than ten jobs have been provided for villagers in the surrounding areas.

“Next, we will increase efforts to expand the scale of ginger planting by land transfer, leading villagers to prosperity,” said Zhou Lefei, Party secretary of Tanlingci Village.
