Villagers are busy harvesting sweet potatoes at the planting base of Nan’an Village, Fenshi Town, Linwu County.
“We started digging sweet potatoes on October 29 and have already harvested nearly 50,000 kilograms. Our sweet potatoes are mainly sold to wholesale markets in Guangdong Province and some online platforms,” said He Zhigang, the head of the Fu’an Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative in Linwu County.
To improve the yield and quality of sweet potatoes, He Zhigang introduced drip irrigation, which can precisely control the water supply and ensure suitable nutrients for sweet potatoes during their growth process.
In addition, He Zhigang plant corns in spring and sweet potatoes in autumn, achieving maximum utilization of land resources.
The village has convenient transportation, and as the soil is also very suitable for growing sweet potatoes, the sweet potatoes here have good taste and quality. The current yield per mu (0.067 hectares) can reach over 1,500 kg, with a total area of over 100 mu (6.67 hectares). It is expected that the total yield will reach 150,000 kg and the sales revenue will be over 400,000 yuan.
With unique geographical conditions, enough sunshine, and significant temperature differences, the village government vigorously develops the sweet potato planting industry with an operating mode that connects growers with the village cooperative and farmers.
The cooperative effectively integrates land resources and promotes large-scale and standardized agricultural planting through land transfer, which improves agricultural production efficiency and enhances the market competitiveness of agricultural products.
The sweet potatoes are injecting strong impetus into the village’s efforts to create beautiful ecology, boost prosperous industries and make villagers rich.
“Next, we will make full use of land resources, seek to maximize land benefits, continuously improve product quality, further increase farmers’ income, and contribute to rural revitalization,” said He Zhigang.
