Press Conference of Suxian District Held

On the morning of September 10, the press conference of Suxian District celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of PRC was held. Li Zhihong, Deputy Secretary of Suxian District Committee and District Director, briefed on the brilliant achievements of economic and social development in Suxian District since the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China with the theme of "Implementing new ideas, new strategies and composing a new chapter of high-quality development of Suxian District".

 

Over the past 70 years, Suxian District has been taking economic construction as the center, reforming and opening up, expanding investment, grasping projects, consolidating foundation, and constantly liberating and developing productive forces. The region's gross domestic product (GDP) increased from 97 million yuan in 1980 to 32.06 billion yuan in 2018, with an average annual increase of 11.3 percent in comparable terms, and the per capita GDP increased from 311 yuan in 1980 to 73,753 yuan in 2018, with an average annual increase of 15.5 percent. Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, Suxian District grew up with New China, and its economy and society changed dramatically. In 2016, Suxian District became one of the first 20 well-off counties in Hunan Province. In 2018, the well-off level reached 98.3 percent. It was successfully listed on the list of the most beautiful counties in China.

 

Over the past 70 years, Suxian District has made every effort to develop its industries, adjust its structure, promote transformation, revitalize its traditional industries, develop its emerging industries, and build a "High Quality Food Material Base in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" of modern agriculture. In 2018, 42 agro-product processing enterprises in the whole district achieved sales revenue of 3.6 billion yuan.

 

The number of large-scale industrial enterprises and the added value of large-scale industry increased from 29 in 1980 to 150 in 2018, respectively. The proportion of added value of high-tech industries to GDP reached 34.9 percent. With the development of modern service industry, the strategy of "tourism plus" has been vigorously implemented with the creation of national tourism demonstration zones as the main line. There are more than 30 key (large) tourism industry projects with a total investment of more than 20 billion yuan.

 

The industrial structure has gradually changed from the agricultural economy at the beginning of the founding of New China to the integration of three industries and the emphasis on both. The proportion of primary, secondary and tertiary industries has been adjusted from 45.0:34.8:20.2 in 1980 to 4.4:57.3:38.3 in 2018, with the proportion of secondary and tertiary industries reaching 95.6 percent. The proportion of mining economy in GDP dropped from 60 percent in 2011 to 20 percent.

 

Over the past 70 years, Suxian District has persisted in ensuring and improving people's livelihood in its development. The proportion of financial livelihood expenditure in total expenditure has been stable at over 73 percent in the past five years. A total of 3035 households and 8834 poor people have been lifted out of poverty, all 12 provincial poverty villages have been listed and the incidence of poverty has decreased from 4.67 percent in 2014 to 0.78 percent; the social security and medical insurance coverage rates in urban and rural areas have reached over 99 percent, the registered unemployment rate in urban areas has stabilized within 4 percent, and the proportion of large class has dropped to less than 7 percent. The "blank villages" in village clinics will be eliminated completely in the year.

Subsequently, the relevant leaders of the Suxian District Committee and the district government answered the reporter's questions on the spot. More than ten provincial and urban media from China News Agency, Hunan Daily, New Hunan, Chenzhou TV Station and Chenzhou Daily took part in the press conference.
