One of the activities of “Spring Seedling Reading”

It was learned from Chenzhou Library that the project “Spring Seedling Reading” project launched by the library and Chenzhou volunteers was awarded with “Sanxiang Galaxy Award” on the close ceremony of 4th Hunan Art Festival.

“Sanxiang Galaxy Award” is one of the awards of Hunan Art Festival, which is generally awarded to the public cultural service project with teamwork characteristic, representative personage, demonstrative function and promotion value. The assessment work is ordinarily handled by Hunan Cultural Ministry within Hunan province.

It was introduced by the Deputy Director of Chenzhou Library- Li Xin that “Spring Seedling Reading” is a long term public project for the promotion of reading for Chenzhou children. The general idea of this project is to establish some loving reading rooms with different ways and send books to the schools which have this kind of reading rooms, meanwhile some volunteers with the professional reading skills will be dispatched to the schools to carry out different reading activities and help the children cultivate their reading habits.

This project was launched in March, 2011. Till now, 19 floating book stations have been established in communities and village groups with over 15000 children members of the “Spring Seedling Reading” project. More than 3000 volunteers were involved in this project. All of these helped the project to reach a good social effect and gain much affirmation and concern from the public. Besides this “Sanxiang Galaxy Award”, this project obtained the award of “excellent case collection of reading promotion projects in communities and villages” hosted by State Library in 2011.
