On August 28, 2012 “Gold Leaf Cup”-the 6th Chenzhou Arts Festival was inaugurated in Chenzhou performing arts center. Xiang Lili- Secretary of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee was presented at the launching ceremony. Qu Hai-Deputy Secretary of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee delivered his speech on the ceremony, sincerely hoping this kind of festival can help to guide the direction of Chenzhou arts and develop more masterpieces which can reflect Chenzhou features , enrich people’s spiritual life, enforce Chenzhou civilized city construction, promote Chenzhou cultural development and boost Chenzhou international city construction.

Chenzhou Arts Festival is held every three years. It is a city art contest activity, mainly for promoting Chenzhou art industry development and meeting people’s increasing requirements on spiritual life. On this session of arts festival, 8 different kinds of characteristic and brilliant shows performed by more than 1000 actors will be presented to Chenzhou citizens at Chenzhou performing arts center, Hunan Kunqu opera classic theater, Suxian cultural studio, etc.. Meanwhile, people can enjoy more than 130 pieces of excellent paintings, calligraphies and photographs.

On the opening ceremony, the opera “In the name of mountain” which was adapted from green guard Liu Zhenmao made its debut. The opera told the tory of Liu Zhenmao from the date when the forest reserve team was dismissed on Chinese New Year Eve of 1993. On that day, Liu Zhenmao chose to stay in the mountain and undertake the forest protection task by himself. Till now, 20 years has passed. Liu conquered many difficulties like persuading villagers not to burn the weeds by walking 30kms to their house, fighting with the poachers. During the 20 years, he missed his son’s wedding and his daily lives were often disturbed by the lawbreakers, but he still insisted. Audiences can learn these moving stories of Liu Zhenmao from this opera.

After watching this opera, Liu Zhenmao said: “it is a great show performed by actors, but actually I’m not so good a person. I’m just an ordinary one.” He also confirmed that he had never regretted to choose to stay in the mountain for 20 years, but he really felt sorry for his family members since he could not take care of them.

Liu’s wife said that because of his rare concern for the family, she kept not to talking with him for many years. But she gradually understood him in the following days.

Many cadres were attracted by the opening ceremony, such as Xiong Qingquan- Former Secretary of Hunan Provincial Party Committee and the first President of Hunan Province Elderly Technology Association, Zhu Dongyang- Former Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial NPC Standing Committee and the Chairman of Hunan Province Elderly Technology Association, Tang Zhixiang- Former Hunan Province Governor and the Chairman of Hunan Province Elderly Technology Association, Lang Yizhu- the Chairman and Secretary-general of Hunan Province Elderly Technology Association, Zhu Hua and Wang Fei- Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary-general of China Traditional Cultural Development Center of Cultural Ministry, Zhang Zhichu- Deputy Director of Hunan Propaganda Ministry, Li Ning- Party Group Secretary and Deputy-Chairman of Hunan Oversea Chinese Federation, Cao Ya- member of CPPCC Standing Committee and Chairman of Hunan Oversea Chinese Federation, Lei Mingqiang- Deputy Director of Hunan Cultural Ministry, Zhou Xianghui- Inspector of Hunan Cultural Ministry, etc.. Some Chenzhou municipal leaders like Mao Tengfei- Deputy Secretary of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee, Zhong Benqiang- Director of Chenzhou Municipal NPC Standing Committee, Liu Guangyue- member of Chenzhou Municipal NPC Standing Committee and Director of Chenzhou Discipline Inspection Commission, and other principals from subordinate departments attended the opening ceremony. Zhou Yingchun- member of Chenzhou Municipal NPC Standing Committee and Director of Chenzhou Propaganda Ministry hosted the opening ceremony.
