Han Han: famous auto racer in China

This interview was taken in 2009 when the first issue of “auto, sports” of Titan Sports was planned to be published.

Han Han won the champion of China Circuit Championship in 2007. In the same year, he refused Titan Sports’ journalists’s interview for the theme of one year count-down to Beijing Olympic Games.

Reporter of Titan Report- Ge Aiping

Auto, sports: how many years from your first attendant of China Circuit Championship

Han Han: five years. I attend China Rally Championship as well.

Auto, sports: do you like this career?

Han Han: it’s okay. I like auto race from the time when I was a child.

Auto, sports: how can you keep this interest for so many years?

Han Han: it is hard to specify the reason, just as it is hard to say why you fall in love with someone.

Auto, sports: have you ever scared for driving racing car?

Han Han: never. But I drive slowly on the street. It is such a competition required high speed for the auto race, so you have to drive as fast as you can during the race.

Auto, sports: what do you get from the race? Excitement? Eager for winning the race? or?

Han Han: now racing is as a routine life for me just as give born for baby once got married. No more fresh feeling for me after every race, but I still enjoyed it.

Auto, sports: have you ever thought about change this profession?

Han Han: it depends. If I still like it and can still win the race, it is not necessary to change.

Auto, sports: have you ever thought about to attend F1?

Han Han: just as all the singers would think about to hold their solo concerts in future, all the auto racers have thought about to attend F1. But, it is too hard for us under current situation.

Auto, sports: but some young racers have ever attended lower grade races in Europe in earlier year.

Han Han: that was because they had to obtain some sponsors with this kind of experience. All of them were clear about the distance they were from attending F1. Fundamentally speaking, I consider the key reason for the hardness for Chinese people to attend F1 is because F1 was initiated by Europeans that you can’t integrate into their group.

Some Japanese racers did good job in F1. Of course, Chinese people can do the same as them. But compared with Japan, China is far behind on the development of auto industry. We need longer time to improve it step by step. No shortcut available there.

Auto, sports: what do you think about your racing and article? Both are just hobbies for you or your jobs, goals?

Han Han: generally speaking, all are the same to me. Target, hobby and job are the same. Hobby does not mean I like it and can do it not so good as usual. Job does not mean I have to do it well. Target does not mean I have to reach it.

Auto, sports: racing and blog, which one took much more time of you?

Han Han: updating blog? We can say it as this way, if I update one 500 letters blog every 3-4 days, it costs me about 20 minutes. Compared with 3-4 days, this 20 minutes’ part is just a tiny part of it, so it does not concern for the energy. Both racing and blog do not take too much of my time.

Auto, sports: how about earning money?

Han Han: it is a secret. For me, both racing and articles are the ways for earning money. As we said, they do not take too much of my time, so earning money does not either.
Auto, sports: can I consider that earning money is easy for you?

Han Han: not exactly. Though you intended to spend more time on racing and articles, it is better not to. Considering for writing articles, it would be worse if you spent whole day on it every day.

Auto, sports: worse?

Han Han: It is with limited talent for me. So the maximum letters I can publish every year are about 0.2 million. Under this situation, I can guarantee that every 100 letters are with some point to be impressed with the readers.

Auto, sports: what is your standard “to be impresses with the readers”?

Han Han: that is my private standard.

Auto, sports: will you be the center when you are in the crowd?

Han Han: yes.

Auto, sports: how?

Han Han: frankly speaking, one is because I’m famous, on the other hand is because I’m not so boring as others.

Auto, sports: currently, some stars are with foreign passports or Hong Kong IDs, have you ever thought about such kind of way to get the Hong Kong ID?

Han Han: yes. But I love my county and my nationality as well. Except that I have to attend the racing abroad frequently and to take the visa is too complicated with Chinese nationality, otherwise I think it is not so necessary currently. Of course, Hong Kong ID project is a proper way to keep as Chinese nationality but more convenient to go abroad.

Auto, sports: do your friends treat you as a racer or writer when you stay together?

Han Han: in the racer group, all of them treat me as a racer. The key topics for us are about the time and performance of the race section. But no writer friends available for me, so I do not know what do they think about me.

Auto, sports: what about your standard of friend?

Han Han: it is hard to specify it, just as it is hard for people to figure out their standard of their couples. But the key point for me is that I like her.

Auto, sports: your mobile phone is beautiful. Do you change it frequently?

Han Han: just as most young people, I’m fun of electronic products.
